5/24/2023 0 Comments Bully penelope douglas seriesI thought this novel would contain one of these two plot lines – the female complains the entire time about how the male character is so mean to her, when he’s not that bad and most of his “bullying” is obviously just a possessive nature, or what he does is actually awful, it climaxes, and he feels absolutely awful and tries REALLY HARD to get her back. I like these circumstances in novels but not my actual life, thank god! Anyways, it was obvious how this book would fall under that category. I usually like the plot where the male character recklessly harms the female character, and then realizes how terrible he was and spends the second half of the novel fighting to get her back. I may be a bit of a masochist when it comes to reading a story of other characters. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Mercy thompson book 12Although she found her place in Adam’s pack, she still operates very much as a her own entity. What I love about this series the most is that Mercy is still very much her own person. For any Mercy Thompson fan, this book is shaking things up. Things I thought were settled and well adjusted, are now on its head. I’m always fascinated when authors change the status quo. Not only was it a story that engaged and captivated me, it also allowed me to leave RL behind and enjoy the world of Mercy Thompson to the fullest. It can make you do anything-even kill the person you love the most. It can look like anyone, any creature it chooses. Without the fae to mind them, those creatures who remained behind roamed freely through Underhill wreaking havoc. They abandoned their prisoners and their pets. They left behind their great castles and troves of magical artifacts. It looks like I'm going to need them.Ĭenturies ago, the fae dwelt in Underhill-until she locked her doors against them. But I have friends in odd places and a pack of werewolves at my back. My only "superpowers" are that I turn into a thirty-five pound coyote and fix Volkswagens. Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, faces a threat unlike any other in this thrilling entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Further tales of the city bookAnna herself has another destination in mind: a lonely stretch of road outside of Winnemucca where the 16-year-old boy she once was ran away from the whorehouse he called home. Some members of Anna’s family are bound for the otherworldly landscape of Burning Man, the art community in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert where 60,000 revelers gather to construct a city designed to last only one week. Now ninety-two, and committed to the notion of “leaving like a lady,” Mrs. The Days of Anna Madrigal, the suspenseful, comic, and touching ninth novel in Armistead Maupin’s bestselling “Tales of the City” series, follows one of modern literature’s most unforgettable and enduring characters-Anna Madrigal, the legendary transgender landlady of 28 Barbary Lane-as she embarks on a road trip that will take her deep into her past. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Crystal gayle and loretta lynnShe built a better life for herself and her family, inspired countless other women to pursue country music, and shared her story with the world. To say that I was mind blown by Cottom’s shrewd social analysis is an understatement. In this same way, it seems that Cottom succeeds in inserting her own personal experience to help her (and us as her readers) understand her subject in more authentic ways. It took several decades for Chicanx scholars to be able to assert our own “positions” and thus in more authentic vantage points in the process. I came to Rosaldo’s research in working through different theoretical models for my own research several decades ago and it helped me to recognize the way in which we, as Chicanx scholars, come to our own research from a different vantage point. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Artist as a young manHe listens to his family having a bitter argument about Parnell and the Catholic Church. Eric Schlosser, an award-winning journalist, opens his ambitious and ultimately devastating exposé with an introduction to the iconoclasts and high school dropouts, such as Harlan Sanders and the McDonald brothers, who first applied the principles of a factory assembly line to a commercial kitchen. But the industry's drive for consolidation, homogenization, and speed has radically transformed America's diet, landscape, economy, and workforce, often in insidiously destructive ways. Fast food is so ubiquitous that it now seems as American, and harmless, as apple pie. On any given day, one out of four Americans opts for a quick and cheap meal at a fast-food restaurant, without giving either its speed or its thriftiness a second thought. |
